Moving Truck Renting a moving truck isn’t cheap. The cost is probably one of the main reasons why people don’t do it very often (aside, of course, from the fact that few people move house on a regular basis). You pay and go through a lot of trouble in order to get the services and equipment of a moving truck rental company, so you might as well get the most out of the transaction. Below are some steps that you can take to lower your moving truck rental costs.
Do Your Research
Before you even call any moving truck rental company, look around first for one that has promotional rates or one which has conditions that can give you better rates. For example, most companies will charge you considerably lower when you rent the vehicle on a non-holiday weekday. Some even say midweek is the best time to get a rental vehicle because then, the price is lowest. A little effort spent on research like this could go a long way in lowering your final truck rental bill.
Bring Your Own Manpower
Most moving truck companies offer their own personnel to help you in your move; some would offer you an optional driver and people who can lift your items for you. However, this defeats the purpose of getting a rental truck because it eliminates the do-it-yourself element (and the savings that come with it).
What you should do is call around; send out a few emails for volunteers. This way, you’ll save a small sum in extra fees and you get to have fun working with friends and family.
Get Your Own Supplies
Moving truck rental companies also offer items like padding and dollies at a small cost. You have to factor in, though, that you’ll need to get a lot of these small items, so those small costs could start adding up. Try asking around and borrowing a dolly from someone you know. For the padding, start looking for them at the nearby supplies store.
Don’t Pay if You Don’t Have To
This will take a bit of reading. Check out your personal automobile insurance and see if it covers you given the following conditions: one, if you’re not driving your own vehicle and; two, if you’re driving a rental truck. If it does both, you’re in luck. This saves you from the cost of getting insurance from the moving truck rental company itself for the one or a few days that you’re going to rent their moving vehicle. Take note, though, that you may have to take out separate collision insurance for the moving truck.
The above these tips are practical and cost-saving so and you have nothing to lose by following them except perhaps several minutes of your time
